Matrixed Prioritization
Balanced patient care, provider needs, and system requirements through discovery and design.
Cardinal Health’s Specialty Solutions group set out to craft an innovative solution to improve oncology patient treatment while decreasing downstream costs to community treatment centers. Cardinal Health engaged Intevity to design and launch this revolutionary end-to-end oncology solution.
Product innovation started with understanding Cardinal Health’s customer needs and addressing the current state of product development. This meant creating a new innovation model within a large organization and working hand-in-hand with clinics—from nurses to front office administrators. User research formed the design foundation for a web-based automated medication dispensing system, designed specifically around clinics’ needs related to patient safety, inventory, and revenue management.
The goal was to simplify a complicated process. Intevity led Cardinal Health through the introduction and implementation of agile frameworks for product development. Through accelerated hardware integrations, rapid prototyping, and quick decision-making, Cardinal realized a faster way to introduce new concepts into the product development cycle.
Intevity’s customized solution provided web and mobile experiences for seamless treatment of both in-clinic and at-home patients. Automated dispensing machines with touchscreen interfaces were developed to guide healthcare providers through complex oncology treatments in order to provide accurate dosage amounts, review patient data, and improve inventory management. The automated and intuitive design mitigated risks associated with human error and ensured flawless medication administration.
By reducing complexities related to medication inventory management, billing, and revenue capture, Intevity was also able to help Cardinal Health reduce insurance turnaround time and minimize overall treatment costs. Intevity’s pilot program launched within six months. Through the program’s success and an effective media strategy, Cardinal Health enjoyed a major stock boost. The engagement was also held up as evidence of a successful model that fueled a new innovation center.
