WuXi NextCode is a leading global genomic information company with offices in Shanghai, Boston, and Reykjavik. WuXi engaged Intevity to provide expertise and validate the approach of an internal process team. The team was tasked with aligning WuXi’s organizational processes and clarifying their priorities, roles, responsibilities, and requirements. The end goals were to enable the business to execute at scale, increase development velocity, as well as to improve software quality.
Workshop observations, interviews with key stakeholders, and multiple sessions with the WuXi team focused around critical areas for meaningful change and value impact. Based on this research Intevity mapped gaps and challenges back to root causes and effects experienced by the company.
The progression plan produced by Intevity helped WuXi create and communicate a clear, transferrable, and shared product vision to stakeholders while aligning team organizational structures to outcomes. The company was also able to rethink how to implement governance and communication frameworks for product requirement intake and prioritization, focusing on formalizing R&D and innovation efforts (e.g., pace-layering to enable multi-speed development).
Addressing core issues related to product vision, organizational structure, and processes created an environment where teams are able and empowered to operate autonomously. These changes led to shorter feedback loops, higher performing teams, and significant velocity gains across the organization.
